Stop the Mandate - Gundersen

September 26, 2021 - 12:26

Dear Friends,

we will have a crises soon in our community.... in fact sounds like to some extent we already do!

it's not just nurses that are leaving, its the cleaning staff, food staff, etc. etc. It's already reaching crises mode.

I talked to a Gundersen hospital staff member today, he told me a patient waited 3 hours for supper. Wait time in the ER is gonna be a long time, the hospital has barely any cleaning staff left ... it's bad... and looks like it's only gonna get worse...

September 25, 2021 - 11:52

WASHINGTON — Senators Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), members of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, sent a letter to Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Acting Director Shalanda Young regarding the White House’s funding request in the FY 2022 Continuing Resolution that would allow the Department of Homeland Security Secretary to adjust the status of Afghan parolees on a case-by-case basis and waive grounds of inadmissibility, including terrorism.

completely disconnected from reality

September 18, 2021 - 08:05

When I was first sworn into Congress a little over a year ago, I knew I’d encounter a lot of people in Washington, DC with bad ideas. What I didn’t realize is that some of those people would be completely disconnected from reality.

Case and point – this week, Speaker Pelosi’s Budget Committee Chairman brushed aside concerns raised by Republicans – and even some Democrats – about the fiscal implications of a massive, $5.5 trillion welfare spending plan. He argued with a straight face that no matter how much the federal government spends, our country

Civics Education

September 18, 2021 - 07:46

This week, I introduced Assembly Bill 563, which creates a civics requirement for high school graduation. It will ensure that students will be taught about the Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and Bill of Rights. Students will also engage in comparative discussions of governing philosophies around the world such as communism, socialism and totalitarianism compared to the founding principles of freedom and democracy we hold so dear in the United States.

La Crosse County led the way in passing a resolution at our caucus in January calling for investigation into the November elections in Wisconsin. In fact our resolution served as a template for many other counties which passed similar resolutions.

The Day that Changed Everything

September 11, 2021 - 08:05

20-years ago today.

Most people reading this probably don't even remember what life was like before 9/11/2001. I know it is hard to believe how dramatically our lives have changed since that day of infamy.

It is incredibly difficult and sometimes very uncomfortable to articulate the sheer terror that many of us felt on that day. We heard about the terrible attacks. We watched the buildings crumble on our televisions.

Remembering 9/11

September 11, 2021 - 06:50

This year marks the twentieth anniversary of the terrorist attacks in New York, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania. There is no question that it was one of the darkest days in American history. But in the days that followed 9/11, Americans of all backgrounds, colors, and religions banded together to support our first responder heroes and help uplift our nation.

Joe Biden's Jaw Dropping Failures

September 10, 2021 - 04:26

Every American president enters office facing certain realities and enormous responsibilities. The job is to acknowledge the realities and accept the responsibility of trying to improve the situation. Unfortunately, President Biden has demonstrated an uncanny ability to make matters worse. To date, his administration is marked by a string of self-inflicted disasters: the border crisis, out-of-control spending and growing debt, and now the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Local Dems Rig Redistricting

September 05, 2021 - 22:05

The message from local Democrats conducting County Board redistricting seems to be do as I say not as I do. In April of 2019 local Dems who control the La Crosse County Board voted to place a non-binding referendum on the ballot. The referendum asked voters if they favor a non-partisan commission to draw voting districts at the state and federal level. Now County Board Chairwoman Monica Kruse has packed the local redistricting committee with Democrats.
