A Clear Infringement on Our Second Amendment Rights

I write today as a proud supporter of our Constitution and an unwavering defender of the Second Amendment. WI Senate Bill 336, sponsored by Senator Brad Pfaff and other Democrats, would require nearly every firearm transfer to go through a federally licensed dealer and background check. This bill represents yet another incremental attack on the God-given rights our Founders codified into law.

The Second Amendment states plainly that “the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.” Yet this bill does precisely that and Senator Pfaff should be ashamed of himself for supporting it. By criminalizing the private sale or transfer of firearms between law-abiding citizens—neighbors, family, friends, and fellow sportsmen—it tramples on individual liberty and treats honest Americans as presumptive criminals.

The idea that citizens must seek government permission to exercise a fundamental right is offensive to the spirit of our Constitution. Imagine requiring a government background check before you could exercise your freedom of speech or worship. Why, then, should it be acceptable to force such a burden on the right to self-defense?

Proponents claim this bill will keep guns out of the wrong hands, but in reality, it will burden only the law-abiding. Criminals, by definition, do not comply with background checks. Meanwhile, countless honest gun owners will be entangled in red tape, facing steep fines and possible imprisonment over paperwork violations.

This is not about safety—it is about control. Our rights are not gifts from government to be rationed, taxed, or delayed. They are the birthright of every American and gifts from God.

I urge my fellow citizens to stand firm and reject this infringement. We must defend the Second Amendment with the same courage and conviction that generations before us have shown. Our liberty depends on it.

Call Senator Brad Pfaff at 608.266.5490 and tell him to stop infringing on your rights.
