WI Supreme Court Agrees to Hear Case That Could Overturn Ban on Ballot Drop Boxes

Last week, the Wisconsin Supreme Court agreed to hear a case aimed at reversing the state's existing prohibition on ballot drop boxes. In 2022, the court, which then had a conservative majority, determined that state law permits ballot drop boxes only at the election clerk’s office. The upcoming case, scheduled for a May hearing, contends that having ballot drop boxes in additional locations is essential for voters.

WI Supreme Court Decision 'Entangles Gov. in Spiritual Affairs'

Recently, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled 4-3 that Wisconsin Catholic Charities, run by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Superior, are not operated primarily for a religious purpose and therefore are not exempt from participating in the state’s unemployment tax system.

The Court decided that while the Superior-based Catholic Charities Bureau is motivated by Catholic doctrines to assist the elderly, disabled, and low-income individuals, the nature of the services they provide is considered non-religious.

America’s two-tiered system of justice was on full display this week in the House Judiciary Committee’s hearing on the investigation into President Biden’s mishandling of classified documents.

The report revealed that despite being a seasoned politician, President Biden had often mishandled classified information as Vice President – keeping classified documents and in some cases even reading it aloud to his ghostwriter – so that he could publish a book and prove he was “Presidential material.”

Vets home hiring bill passes in the Senate

This week, the Senate concluded its legislative session, among the legislation passed was a crucial bill co-authored by Senator Van Wanggaard and myself. This legislation addresses the pressing issue of staffing shortages at Wisconsin's chronically understaffed Veterans' homes.

For years, the Veterans' home in Union Grove has struggled with staffing challenges despite the dedicated efforts of the current staff. It's evident that additional support is urgently needed.

It happened to be the day the Republican-led assembly was voting on Tony Evers’ “fair maps,” and wouldn't you know it, I passed by one of the newly elected Republican Representatives from the Northwoods waiting at the elevator.

Senate Passes Bill Banning Males From Women's Sports

Earlier this week, the state Senate passed a bill that would prohibit Wisconsin K-12 public schools and schools participating in the choice program from allowing biological males to participate in girls’ athletic teams or competitions. The Assembly passed the bill earlier this session. The bill will now go to the Governor, who has said on more than one occasion that he will veto any such bill.
