Vets home hiring bill passes in the Senate

This week, the Senate concluded its legislative session, among the legislation passed was a crucial bill co-authored by Senator Van Wanggaard and myself. This legislation addresses the pressing issue of staffing shortages at Wisconsin's chronically understaffed Veterans' homes.

For years, the Veterans' home in Union Grove has struggled with staffing challenges despite the dedicated efforts of the current staff. It's evident that additional support is urgently needed.

By having targeted exceptions within the state's civil service process and implementing weekly pay for employees offering direct care to our veterans, we're cutting the unnecessary red tape to get nurses and CNAs hired to ensure our nation's heroes receive the care and attention they rightfully deserve.

The bill now heads to the Governor's desk to be signed into law.

We must also do what we can to keep elderly veterans in their own homes, that is needed and a better use of tax dollars than all of them going to nursing homes.
