Governor Evers Vetoes Clean Water Funding

PFAS, or "forever chemicals", as they're sometimes called, have been a topic of policy debate for the past few years, as we've begun to learn how prevalent they are in our water supply. An EPA study found 70% of private wells in Wisconsin contain some level of PFAS contamination. The contamination was first identified in Marinette County and has generated a lot of media attention in Northeastern Wisconsin communities because of its prevalence in that region.

Requiring Elected Officials to be Notified of Refugee Resettlements

As a Member of Congress I have a responsibility to keep our nation as safe and secure as possible. That includes ensuring those who are coming to our country are doing so in a way that is safe, legal, and productive to society. Recently, we witnessed a refugee resettlement in Wisconsin’s Third District where elected officials were not involved in the discussions of resettlement and the U.S. Department of State could not confirm the extent of the background investigations conducted on the intended refugees.

A year ago March, a number of parents of students at Sun Prairie East High School addressed the District’s school board, expressing concern about what their daughters were telling them about an incident that occurred in the girls’ locker room.

According to Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, who became involved once a parent contacted them, after a swim class four freshmen girls went into the girls’ locker room and proceeded to shower in their swimsuits.

Future of APRN Modernization Act

This past Sunday, I was honored to appear on Channel 3000's For the Record show to discuss the future of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse Modernization Act after it was recently vetoed by the governor.

The bipartisan APRN Modernization Act that I authored would have allowed registered nurses to practice independently without the need for a collaborative agreement with a physician.

We told you last week about a looming vote on a nearly $100 billion, multi-part foreign aid measure that was scheduled for a weekend vote in the U.S. House. On Saturday, that vote happened.

While I have supported some components of the plan – such as additional military aid for Israel in their ongoing response to the terrorist attacks of October 7, and expanded defense cooperation for Taiwan in the face of escalating Communist Chinese aggression – I am deeply opposed to other parts of the legislation.
