During one of my recent visits to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, I met with the Associate Controller in their Office of Financial Services. This employee oversees the process of sending each student important information about their loans to ensure students understand the amount of debt they will be incurring. All colleges and universities in Wisconsin are required to share this information with their students at the beginning of the school year. This is due to 2015 Wisconsin Act 284, which I authored.

We have been treated to a spate of Democrat protests. They involve groups. that shout, call names, and sing in a group. This activity has prompted me to fall back on some old lessons.

Mark Twain said, "It is easier to fool people than it is to convince them they have been fooled."

Eckhart Tolle said, "The self, in an effort to uphold and defend itself, engages in making assessments and cultivates emotions like unease and resentments."

Finally!!! Finally, we have a candidate who is running to become the next Superintendent of Public Instruction here in Wisconsin who is interested in learning. Brittany Kinser wants kids to be able to be proficient in reading, writing, math and science. She believes that our children should have the basic tools to become productive citizens when they graduate from high school.

I have read and listened to many opinions and perspectives on Wisconsin’s municipal collective bargaining law prior to Act 10 and after. I also had a front row seat on the implementation of Act 10 as a Commissioner for the Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission (WERC). I would like to add a perspective that has been overlooked to date – that of the effect that the previous municipal collective bargaining law had on the students and student learning.

Across the country, we are seeing law enforcement agencies declare that they will not cooperate with federal immigration authorities to protect our communities from dangerous criminals. Local law enforcement cooperation with ICE is instrumental. According to ICE, 70% of arrests occur after notification from law enforcement agencies when an individual is held for other crimes. Without local cooperation, ICE must locate and arrest dangerous aliens in the community. This alternative requires that additional resources be expended and puts the public in danger.

In case you missed it, Brittany Kinser, candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction, dominated headlines and the stage in Madison on Thursday as she participated in the WisPolitics forum less than two weeks from primary day.

“State superintendent candidate Brittany Kinser said at a WisPolitics candidate forum that she backs school choice because she ‘supports families making the best option for their kids,’” according to the WisPolitics write-up from the forum.
