Whatever Happened to… ATV/UTV Legislation?

The 17th Senate District has some of the best places in Southern Wisconsin to ride ATVs and UTVs. This rapidly growing industry is not only fun for riders, but also is great for Wisconsin’s economy. In 2023 there were almost 500,000 registered ATV/UTVs in the state, that is more than double the number of registered snowmobiles! This number has grown more than 60% over the past ten years. Over the past couple legislative sessions, I have worked closely with the Wisconsin ATV/UTV Association (WATVA) to ensure that Wisconsin continues to be a top place to enjoy ATVs and UTVs.

Christmas at the Capitol

Each year for the past 29 years, Wisconsin Family Council and Wisconsin Family Action have collaborated to display a Merry Christmas sign and a nativity scene in the State Capitol Rotunda. The sign not only wishes everyone a Merry Christmas but reminds viewers of the real reason for the season—Jesus Christ, mankind’s Savior. And this year, for the first time in United States history, a nativity scene is also being displayed at the US Capitol on the steps in front of the House of Representatives.

Next Session's Priorities

At the end of each year, I sit down with media outlets covering Wisconsin news to lay out the Assembly Republican agenda for the upcoming year. Assembly Republicans are excited to work to enact conservative policy here in Wisconsin. Unfortunately, we must face the reality of split government. While Republicans have maintained majorities in both houses of the legislature, Governor Evers’ veto will prevent many of our conservative priorities from becoming law.

Common Sense Gun Laws

--- This was first published on August 10, 2019 - I am simply re-posting it word-for-word due to recent events in Madison - Will anyone finally listen? ---

For several years I have been calling for common sense gun laws. In all these years my common-sense proposals have fallen on deaf ears by politicians who are afraid of what the fake news will say about them if they support my proposals. It seems, even in the wake of additional mass shootings, I am still the only one with the courage to propose ideas that truly will work.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that the Veterans’ Administration allocated nearly $11 million intended for recruitment and retention of VA employees that assist in processing veterans’ benefits claims to instead award bonuses to senior executives. 90% of all VA employees, including the intended recipients, were left out of receiving any of these funds.

Supreme Court Denies Petition in WI Parental Rights Case

Earlier this year, the Wisconsin Institute for Law (WILL) and Liberty alongside America First Legal (AFL) filed a lawsuit on behalf of an Eau Claire parents’ group that wanted to protect their children from the school district’s radical gender policies. This week the US Supreme Court narrowly denied a request to review the lower court’s dismissal of the case based on a lack of standing. The lower court asserted that the parents cannot challenge the policies until their children have been harmed by them. The merits of the case were never heard.

Dane County Judge Strikes Down Act 10

Act 10 was a monumental achievement during my time serving in the legislature. This legislation has saved taxpayers billions of dollars. This month, a Dane County Judge determined various provisions of the law to be unconstitutional. His ruling risks backtracking on this important legislation by allowing public sector employees to once again collectively bargain and raise your tax bill significantly. Following the ruling, I released the following statement:

What’s With All the School District Referendums?

Downsizing generally leads to a reduction in costs, but that is often not the case for school districts. Across Wisconsin, many school districts are faced with declining enrollment, but costs aren’t decreasing. In addition, not only is enrollment declining, inflation is impacting school districts just like it is impacting your family. This combination of factors is why so many districts have gone to referendum to ask the voters for more money. I am very sympathetic to the situation facing our school districts and wanted to explain why there are so many school referendums.

Susan Crawford is a Liberal Activist

A Wisconsin Appellate Court recently rejected activist Susan Crawford’s attempt to block the Wisconsin Legislature from protecting the state’s separation of powers and holding Attorney General Josh Kaul accountable.

If Susan Crawford had it her way, the Attorney General would spend tax dollars without abandon. The voters can see clearly: Susan Crawford doesn’t care about them—she only cares about liberal special interests. We cannot let Wisconsin’s future be decided by activists like Susan Crawford!

Pre-emptive Pardons an Impeachable Offense

The Biden administration has leaked the likely news that they intend to preemptively pardon many of his friends, even though they have not been charged. That means he knows they are guilty. But more egregious is that this is going to create a Constitutional crisis for our legal system to analyze and reign in the raw power of presidential pardon or Biden’s corruption will set a very dangerous precedent for all future presidents to follow.
