Modernizing Our Transportation and Infrastructure

As a Member on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I’m committed to ensuring the infrastructure in Wisconsin’s Third District receives the attention it deserves. Our roads need to be fixed, our bridges need to be safe and accessible, and all residents need access to clean, safe drinking water.

In my first year in Congress, I introduced or cosponsored 35 bills that will improve Wisconsin’s infrastructure, including:

WI Family Action joins in objecting to abortion referendum

Last week, Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) said he favors the legislature passing a bill that would ban abortion in Wisconsin after 15 weeks and then, assuming the governor signs the bill, putting the matter before all Wisconsin citizens in the form of a "binding referendum" on a statewide ballot. Wisconsin Family Action opposes this idea and joined with the other pro-life organizations in issuing an official statement through the Heal Without Harm Coalition denouncing this strategy.

Coulee Region Christmas

Here in the Coulee Region of Western Wisconsin Christmas is a very special time of year. Whether you travel to Trempealeau, Holmen, Sparta, Tomah, Black River Falls, Onalaska, Prairie du Chien, La Crosse, or any of the towns in between you are going to find examples of the Christmas spirit all over the place. The following excerpt is from a recent post to this very web site which I believe describes the reason for the season very well:

Precious Lives Are At Stake. Help Us Fight Back.

The LGBTQ+ movement is coming for our children, and they certainly haven’t been shy about telling us.

Trends such as boys competing in girls’ sports, the encouragement of gender dysphoria, the grooming of our children, including transgender reading time with kindergartners, and so on, started as a grassroots movement at a very local level—school board, city, county—in states like California. But they do not stay in California! In the blink of an eye, these became national trends, and our own governor is proudly promoting this agenda.

Merry Christmas!

As the holiday season approaches, I wanted to take a moment to extend my warmest wishes to each and every one of you.

This is a special time of year when we come together to celebrate the spirit of joy, love, and togetherness.

It's a time to reflect on the year gone by, appreciate the bonds that unite us, and look forward to the promise of a new year.

Let us also remember those who may be facing challenges during this time. Together, as a community, we can extend a helping hand and share in the spirit of generosity that defines the holiday season.

WILL and MSLF Secure Legal Victory for Student Group at UW-La Crosse

WILL and the Mountain States Legal Foundation (MSLF) secured a legal victory for a conservative group, Young America’s Foundation (YAF), a student organization that was denied student-organization status by University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

The school originally denied the group’s designation because the student organization rightfully refused to sign onto a “DEI” inclusivity statement that opposed the organizations values and violated their First Amendment Rights. UW-La Crosse only backed down after WILL and MSLF threatened legal action on behalf of YAF.

No Ukraine Funding Until Our Border is Secure

President Biden's open border presents a clear and present danger to America.

Senate Republicans must hold firm and deny cloture on any Ukraine support bill that does not make funding contingent on hard metrics that show we have actually secured the border and dramatically reduced the flow of illegal migrants.

We can't trust the president and his administration to faithfully execute that law. So we have one leverage point here. The administration wants funding for Ukraine. We need to use that leverage point.

We Are Here For A Time Such As This

As I sat through a stunning production of Sight & Sound’s “Esther” recently and heard the refrain, “for such a time as this,” I was overwhelmed once again with the reality that we are all here, right now, by divine providence for a particular purpose. We are not here by accident; we are not here without purpose. Like Queen Esther who was responsible for saving her fellow Jewish people from destruction, God has put us in Wisconsin “for such a time as this.”

La Crosse County Debt Spiral

At one time La Crosse County paid for roads out of current revenue. The county has been borrowing at least since 2010. This year the debt service on that pile of money will be $3.1 million. Imagine how many miles of roads could be paved with that much money. Why did they borrow it? Because then they could spend the money on nonmandated social programs.

Wisconsin Supreme Court Unanimously Refused to hear School Choice Lawsuit

The Wisconsin Supreme Court (SCOWIS) denied an original action petition seeking to end Wisconsin’s widely popular and successful school choice programs. Kirk Bangstad, the owner of the Minocqua Brewing Company Super PAC, funded the lawsuit to overturn the 1992 ruling now that the SCOWIS has a liberal majority.
