Zuckerbucks Constitutional Amendment Receives Voter Approval
Tuesday’s election brought great news for conservatives looking to enshrine key election reforms into our state constitution. This could not have happened without conservatives voting early and going to the polls on Tuesday.
The Zuckerbucks Amendment passed with 54.5% of the vote. This will ensure greater election integrity by making sure dark money donors like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg will no longer be able to pass money through third party groups to local governments looking to advantage Democrat turnout in big cities.
In 2020, the Center for Technology and Civic Life (CTCL) distributed more than $10 million to Wisconsin cities. Approximately $8.8 million of that went to the Democrat strongholds of Milwaukee, Madison, Green Bay, Kenosha and Racine. A statistical analysis done by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) found that the funds resulted in a significant increase in turnout for Democrats – an increase of approximately 8,000 votes. The passage of this constitutional amendment represents conservatives fighting for what they believe in and ultimately winning the argument. But this is not always easy, it can take time and strategy. I have often heard from conservatives who demand that we must just fight harder against Governor Evers, believing that if we just keep putting legislation on his desk he will pass it. That’s not realistic. He was never going to sign this legislation – it had to be a constitutional amendment. Then, legislative Republicans faced criticism last year for not putting this constitutional amendment on the ballot in the Spring during our Supreme Court race. I believed then as I do now that it would have failed, given the high Democrat turnout. Being patient and strategic won the day – even though Democrat canvassers organized against this amendment to try and kill it at the polls.
But this constitutional amendment and the other one on the ballot that proposed that only election workers may work our elections is not just a conservative issue. I believe the margins were as high as they were because they are common sense reforms that reasonable people agree on.
I appeared on The Dan O'Donnell Show and The Jay Weber Show this week to talk about the election results.
