Supporting Our Men and Women in Blue
Our law enforcement officers are some of the most brave and selfless members of our communities. They lead in times of crisis and often risk their own lives for the safety of others. Their dedication to serving and protecting is admirable, and we will never be able to thank them enough for all they do to protect us.
Throughout my time in Congress, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with our Third District law enforcement officers. Whether it’s hosting district-wide roundtables, touring facilities, or attending ceremonies, I’m always looking for ways to connect with our men and women in blue and share how I’m working for them in Congress.
I wanted to take a moment to share some highlights from the past two years of my outreach to local law enforcement, as well as my legislative actions to support police officers.
Legislation I’ve cosponsored to back our law enforcement officers:
- Cosponsored the Protect and Serve Act of 2023, which makes it a federal crime to knowingly cause, or attempt to cause, bodily injury to a law enforcement officer
- Cosponsored the Public Safety Employer-Employee Cooperation Act to allow public safety officers to form a labor union, collectively bargain for hours and wages, and provide resolution mechanisms for impasses during negotiations
- Cosponsored the National Law Enforcement Officers Remembrance, Support and Community Outreach Act, which establishes the National Law Enforcement Officers Remembrance, Support and Community Outreach program
- Cosponsored the Pay Our Correctional Officers Fairly Act to provide increased locality pay rates to Bureau of Prisons employees
It is more important than ever before that we show our appreciation for our brave law enforcement officers. I will always work to ensure they have the tools, resources, and support they need to keep themselves and our communities safe.
