Derrick comes down really hard on Chip Roy for objecting to Johnson as speaker. It is possible to agree with Van Orden on the need for greater scurity and stronger leadership, while disagreeing with his criticism of Roy and his friends. Without the likes of Chip Roy, the bad bad very bad deal that Johnson made with the democrats on the continuing resolution would have become law. The original deal would have meant, before Trump got in office, that they would have had to negotiate another deal right around Christmas time, and the CR included mountains of pork barrel spending. Quite a bit of that fat was cut out in the resolution that passed. I am very disappointed that Van Orden appears ready to be a rubber stamp, uncritically voting for all that Johnson and Trump want, regardless of the negative aspects of their deals. Johnson betrayed the American people, not Chip Roy and his friends. I want more from my congressman that Van Orden appears ready to offer.

DVO has to live within our system. If we can't compromise we can't accomplish anything, we have been there so many times. Like it or not it is what it is. For the record, I would rather not compromise, but unless we have a huge majority we need to go for the lesser of evils.
