Act 10 was a monumental achievement during my time serving in the legislature. This legislation has saved taxpayers billions of dollars. This month, a Dane County Judge determined various provisions of the law to be unconstitutional. His ruling risks backtracking on this important legislation by allowing public sector employees to once again collectively bargain and raise your tax bill significantly. Following the ruling, I released the following statement:

“This lawsuit came more than a decade after Act 10 became law and after many courts rejected the same meritless legal challenges. Act 10 has saved Wisconsin taxpayers more than $16 billion. We look forward to presenting our arguments on appeal.”

The savings resulting from this legislation cannot be understated. The Badger Institute, a non-partisan policy research institution, wrote a column detailing the importance of this good-government reform. You can read the column here.

A Judge has no right to change Wisconsin law, I know they do it, but where do they get the authorization? This is simply a past practice that needs to stop, I have no issue if the Judge orders an appeal to the Supreme Court, but this is legislation from the bench. We need to fix this system.
