Bringing Whole Milk Options Back to Our Schools
Milk has 13 essential nutrients that are necessary for kids to live healthy lives and succeed in school. However, unwarranted government regulations have restricted milk variety in schools. With limited options, if students don’t like the milk they’re being served, they won’t drink it. This has resulted in many students skipping out on milk entirely and instead consuming highly caffeinated, sugar-sweetened beverages with little nutritional value.
We must provide students with a variety of milk options so they can grow and be healthy, which is why I was proud to cosponsor and help secure the House passage of the bipartisan Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2023 this week. This bill overturns the misguided federal decision to restrict milk options in schools and gives students the freedom to choose the milk they prefer, whether flavored or unflavored whole, reduced-fat, or low-fat fat-free milk.
The Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act of 2023 supports the health and development of our children, and I’m proud to see it pass out of the House.

Low fat milk?
I am one of those people who wondered what happened to real milk. The low-fat product that is pushed today is not as enjoyable as regular milk in my opinion and I think that is why we have seen a drop in milk selection by our young people and adults. We take the cream out of the milk, use it in several ways including ice cream, then add lots of sugar and give that to our young people against our best interest.
Whole Milk for Healthy Kids
Thank you for the note. The bill we passed gives children the option to have whole milk and 2% in school. I think this will go a long way to getting our kids back into drinking these healthy and wholesome option. Merry Christmas!
