Another Missed Opportunity

Governor Evers vetoed another middle class tax cut this week. The bill that passed with bipartisan support in the Assembly last week would have invested nearly $250 million to reduce taxes for middle and lower income levels by increasing the sliding scale standard deduction by 13.2 percent for each filer. This would have resulted in an average savings of $106 per filer. The bill also would have reduced personal property taxes for manufacturers and paid off $100 million in general obligation debt.

Grand Old Party is getting younger

In Monroe County, the Grand Old Party, the Republican Party, appears to be getting younger. The Republican Party dates from before Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860; some 160 years ago. Although many believe the “old” is an adjective describing the members, it really describes the longevity of the political party. In recent years many are calling the GOP the Grand Opportunity Party.

Vote Justice Dan Kelly for Wisconsin Supreme Court

The February 18th non-partisan Wisconsin Supreme Court Primary selected two candidates to face off in the April 7th election. There were local elections scattered about the Coulee Region and around the state on Primary Day, but the Supreme Court Primary was the most important contest of the day. Those participating voted for one candidate and the top two vote getters will continue campaigning until April 7th, with that winner getting a ten-year term on the Supreme Court.

Justice Kelly Receives Endorsement of Milwaukee Police Association

Supreme Court Justice Daniel Kelly’s campaign announced he has received the endorsement of the Milwaukee Police Association. The Association represents 1,600 brave men and women in the Milwaukee Police Department who put their lives on the line every day to protect the citizens of Wisconsin’s largest city.

“On behalf of the Milwaukee Police Association, we are proud to endorse Justice Daniel Kelly for the Wisconsin Supreme Court,” said MPA President Dale Bormann.

Lets make Monroe County a sanctuary 2nd Amendment County

There is a grassroots effort going on in Monroe County to pass a resolution to declare itself a 2nd Amendment Sanctuary County. By definition, a Second Amendment sanctuary refers to states, counties, or localities in the United States that have adopted laws or resolutions to prohibit or impede the enforcement of certain gun control measures perceived as violations of the second amendment.

VP Pence Visits Wisconsin

It was an honor to host Vice President Mike Pence at the Wisconsin State Capitol on Tuesday for National School Choice Week. The Wisconsin School Choice Showcase also celebrated 30 years of school choice in our state. His visit is the first ever of a sitting President or Vice President at the state Capitol. The Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos also made the trip. Both highlighted the fact that Wisconsin is the national birthplace of school choice in their remarks at the rally in the Capitol rotunda.

7th District Special Election: Vote Church

Wisconsin’s 7th Congressional District, which reaches into the Coulee Region in parts of Jackson, Juneau, and Monroe Counties, will have a primary election for their Representative to Congress to replace Rep. Sean Duffy who resigned for personal reasons last September. Both the Republican and Democratic Parties will have a two candidate Primary and the winners will face off in the May 12th, 2020 Special Election, and then possibly face off again in November!
