Several bills passed by Senate, Assembly
I am pleased to announce that a number of my bills have moved one step closer to becoming state law.
Both the state Senate and Assembly held floor sessions this week to consider and pass more than 100 legislative proposals, seven of which I authored:
- SB 880: Authorizes a one-time change to the total equalized value threshold for a tax incremental financing district in Stevens Point, making the property more business friendly for a planned $50 million facility that is expected to create 150 well-paying jobs
- SB 633: Honors the legacy of World War II veterans who used their native language to send secret communications on the battlefield by naming the stretch of Interstate 90 from the Wisconsin-Minnesota border to Interstate 94 in Tomah the “Ho-Chunk World War II Code Talkers Memorial Highway”
- SB 744: Streamlines the National Guard tuition reimbursement grant distribution process and reduces the administrative burden on both students and the Universities of Wisconsin
- SB 516: Minimizes the amount of stress for elder victims and witnesses who are involved in a court proceeding by allowing for expedited hearings and the ability to preserve testimony through a video-taped hearing
- SB 592: Increases the reimbursement rate under the Medical Assistance program for complex rehab technology equipment for individuals with disabilities
- SB 925: Prohibits the sale of counterfeit and unsafe lighters, which will vastly reduce unnecessary property damage and injuries and lessen the strain on hospitals and first responders
- SB 225: Improves and clarifies Wisconsin’s laws on the relationship between recreational vehicle manufacturers and dealers
Because all seven of these bills have received bipartisan support, I am hopeful the governor will sign them into law when they are sent to his desk.
I recently had the pleasure of going "On the Job" at Edgewater Haven, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility that provides continued medical and therapeutic support to their long- and short-term residents.
Each month, I spend a day "On the Job" with local employers to get a better understanding of their operations and to highlight the employment opportunities available in Central Wisconsin.
Here is a video of my experience at Edgewater Haven in Port Edwards.
