Major Wins Against Radical Gender Ideology
This past week, radical gender ideology in the U.S. took a major hit thanks to a national athletic governing body and the U.S. Supreme Court.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) became the first national collegiate athletic governing body to ban biological males from competing in women's sports. The NAIA is a collegiate sports organization outside of the NCAA. Eighty percent of the members are private schools including many Christian colleges across America. The NAIA Council of Presidents unanimously approved this landmark decision.
Finally, a collegiate athletic governing body is standing up to save women's sports. This courageous move by the NAIA starkly contrasts with the current policies of the NCAA, which faces a lawsuit for allowing a male swimmer to compete in women's sports. Here in Wisconsin, Governor Evers has vetoed a bill banning males from participating in girls’ sports in our K-12 schools.
In another encouraging development, the U.S. Supreme Court recently intervened to uphold a vital child protection law in Idaho. With a decisive 5-3 vote, the Court issued an emergency order allowing the state to enforce its ban on transgender procedures for minors. This law, part of Idaho's Vulnerable Child Protection Act, aims to protect minors from irreversible medical treatments that include puberty-blocking drugs, hormone therapy, and certain surgeries.
Justices Thomas, Alito, Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett made up the majority while all three liberal justices voted against the child protection law. Chief Justice John Roberts did not publicly indicate how he voted.
This is really good news from the high court. We wish we had good news on this issue closer to home. While our state legislature passed a bill similar to the Idaho bill this session, known as the "Help Not Harm" bill, Governor Evers promptly vetoed it preferring to pander to those pushing this dangerous agenda.
Each decision, whether from a governing body, a governor, or the highest court in the land, helps shape the landscape in which we operate. They influence public opinion and, more importantly, they protect the rights and lives of vulnerable individuals. As we celebrate these victories, we also prepare for the work ahead. Radical gender ideology is full of dangerous, anti-Christian ideas, and it needs to be eradicated from our culture.
