Last week, while volunteering on a painting job, the team got to talking about something that seems to define far too much of today’s politics — the misuse of the “General Welfare” clause in the U.S. Constitution.

As I told the crew that day, there’s one simple question every elected official should ask before voting on any bill:

“Where in the Constitution do We the People authorize the federal government to do this thing we’re about to vote on?”

The biggestdata centers planned for Wisconsin, the Microsoft project in Mount Pleasant and the Vantage project in Port Washington, are not a threat to local water systems or to Lake Michigan — a fact opponents either can’t believe or won’t admit.

Microsoft last week called off its plans to develop a second Racine County data center campus in the Village of Caledonia after a public hearing at which one opponent said, “This company, whoever it is, they want our land, they want our water. They have no commitment to our community. They’re in it for profit only.”

This shortage means longer response times and fewer available responders when families need help the most.

For the past several years, America has been experiencing a self-defense awakening. Across every region of the country, an increasing number of Americans are opting to responsibly carry a firearm to protect themselves and their families.

This right is more essential than ever before. Recent tragedies have shown that lives might have been saved, or violence prevented altogether, had victims or bystanders been lawfully carrying a concealed firearm.

Last week, the US Supreme Court heard arguments in a case brought by a licensed Colorado Christian therapist, Kaley Chiles, who was barred by state law from counseling children away from unwanted same-sex attraction and gender confusion. Chiles’ legal defense provided by Alliance Defending Freedom, argues the law directly violates her First Amendment right to free speech. Under the current Colorado law, counselors who counsel according to biblical truth can be fined up to $5000 and even lose their counseling license.
