The Wisconsin State Assembly had a busy and productive fall legislative session. The Assembly approved 58 proposals, all of which received bipartisan votes according to an analysis by the Legislative Reference Bureau. I take pride in the fact that in the legislature, we're working together to address important issues in our state.
The November 2020 elections are about eleven months away and yet in western Wisconsin, the congressional campaigns are beginning to become active. The obvious reason is the Special Election in the 7th Congressional District, but conservative candidates in the 3rd are beginning to stir as well.
Rep Ron Kind’s recent newspaper column started with “Recently I had the opportunity to join colleagues on both sides of the aisle on a trip to the Middle East…” which I read with great interest having already learned about this trip from other sources. Where, oh where, is the late great Paul Harvey with the Rest of the Story? (Paul Harvey Aurandt, better known as Paul Harvey, 1918-2009, was a conservative news commentator on the ABC Radio Network and best known for his Rest of the Story segment.)
The Wisconsin State Assembly had its final floor day for the fall legislative session on Tuesday. While I'm proud that we approved dozens of good bills, I'm also disappointed with my colleagues on the other side of the aisle. Assembly Democrats refused to take up Senate Bill 6, which requires at least an 18-month prison sentence for fifth and sixth OWI offenses. Under the bill, if judges want to impose a shorter sentence, they must explain their justification in writing.

Thanks for your reply. As we both know, the real crux of the matter when it comes to gun control legislation is how a legislator DEFINES ‘common sense policy.’
I was paging through an old Reader's Digest from November '16. Under their regular feature, Humor in Uniform, was the subtitle; A SALUTE TO THE FUNNIEST MILITARY MOVIE QUOTES. One was - "STRIPES (1981) John Winger: We're all very different. We're not Watusi. We're not Spartans. We're Americans. You know what that means? That means that our forefathers were kicked out of every decent country in the world."
Elections matter! Next year, Wisconsin will be asked to elect a Supreme Court justice in our Spring elections. Only one of the candidates vows to stand for the rule of law.
Last year I had the great honor to serve as ‘Guardian’ for my Dad’s Badger Honor Flight to Washington D.C. He is a veteran of the Vietnam War and volunteered to serve in the Army in a field artillery unit most notably around the city of Tuy Hoa in Phu Yen province where he earned a Bronze Star with ‘V’ for Valor.
