Voter ID Loophole in Wisconsin Law
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty (WILL) released a report last week revealing a concerning Voter ID loophole in Wisconsin law that would allow over 140,000 individuals to submit absentee ballots without showing ID because they are classified as “indefinitely confined.” The rate of indefinitely confined individuals is currently 116% higher than it was in 2016.
“Confidence in our elections continues to be dangerously low in Wisconsin and across the country. Voter ID is a popular and well-executed way to keep our elections secure and free of fraud,” WILL Research Director Will Flanders explained. “While the Governor refused to fix this loophole in the years since 2020, efforts must be made by local election clerks to resolve it as much as possible."
Providing a way for the sick and elderly to vote through absentee ballots was well-intentioned, but poorly executed. Voters should not be able to independently determine whether or not they meet the requirements to receive absentee ballots in perpetuity without ever providing a photo ID. The law requires a witness verification in lieu of a Voter ID, but that’s subject to gross fraud. This loophole must be addressed before November to ensure election integrity.

No one should be voting without 100 percent certainty. when this class of people would be voting, let us assume they will average out and so their unfortunate situation will not change the outcome if they can't vote. Society needs to have fair elections, not elections where the voters are not certain to be legitimate.
