WEST SALEM, WI – Today, Congressman Derrick Van Orden (WI-03) announced his appointment to the House of Representatives’ Agriculture Committee, Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, and Veterans’ Affairs Committee.

“I’m thrilled to be appointed to the Agriculture, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Veterans’ Affairs Committees,” said Van Orden. “These are three huge wins for Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District. Rural communities like ours have been underrepresented for too long, and our service men and women deserve an advocate who has walked in their shoes. I’m looking forward to better serving our farmers, veterans, and those who rely on rural infrastructure along the Mississippi River and beyond.”

The Agriculture Committee will spearhead the development of the upcoming Farm Bill and oversee policies that benefit the farmers and agriculture workers of Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District.

The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee is one of the largest committees in Congress, overseeing railroads, pipelines, highways, waterways like the Mississippi River, and important aspects of rural infrastructure. The Veterans’ Affairs Committee oversees veterans’ benefits and evaluates the operations of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Quote from Agriculture Committee Chairman GT Thompson (PA-15): “The House Committee on Agriculture will hit the ground running in the 118th Congress to address the many headwinds facing farm families and rural America. I look forward to working with Representative Van Orden and welcoming a new voice from Wisconsin to our diverse Committee roster.”

Quote from Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman Sam Graves (MO-6): “I am excited to welcome Representative Van Orden to the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. I am confident he will be a valuable member of our Committee as we work to develop solutions to improve our infrastructure, strengthen transportation programs, and help alleviate ongoing energy and supply chain problems on behalf of the American people.”

Quote from Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Mike Bost (IL-12): “I am thrilled to welcome Rep. Derrick Van Orden to the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs. His commitment to public service is demonstrated by the 26 years he spent on active-duty in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Navy SEAL Senior Chief. Beyond his combat experience, Rep. Van Orden brings a personal understanding of the challenges so many of our veterans face. Derrick successfully navigated the transition from military service to civilian life in the private sector, and is a proud veteran small business owner. I look forward to seeing how he utilizes his background to affect positive change for the veterans he represents in Wisconsin, and the veterans he represents nationwide as a member on our Committee.”

I usually fear a new member of congress, will be intimidated, by the bold and powerful, but I don't have any such fear in this case. In fact, I suspect they will get a dose of the real world from DVO
