Happy National Milk Day!

Wisconsin is America’s Dairyland and a top contributor in providing quality milk and dairy products to the rest of the world. We have over 1.2 million dairy cows across more than 6,000 dairy farms that are run by our incredibly hardworking and dedicated farmers who produced 31.9 billion pounds of milk in 2022.

As the only Wisconsin Member on the House Committee on Agriculture, I’m committed to ensuring our dairy farmers are equipped with the resources they need to run their businesses and that Americans have access to a variety of types of milk.

During my first year in Congress, I introduced or cosponsored multiple bills that bolster our dairy industry and promote milk products including:

  • Introduced the Dairy Business Innovation Act, which will allow an additional $16 million per year to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Dairy Business Innovation (DBI) Initiatives to support dairy businesses in the development, production, marketing, and distribution of dairy products
  • Cosponsored the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act, which passed the House, to overturn the federal decision to restrict milk options in schools and give students the freedom to choose flavored or unflavored whole, reduced-fat, or fat-free milk
  • Cosponsored the Dairy Farm Resiliency Act to make the necessary updates to the Dairy Margin Cost program to raise the Tier I cap to 6 million pounds and require production history to be updated every five years.
  • Cosponsored the DAIRY PRIDE Act, which prevents non-dairy products from using a dairy label and misaligning nutrient-scant products with the nutritious dairy products produced by America’s farmers
  • Cosponsored the GIVE MILK Act, which amends the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 to allow certain participants in the special supplemental nutrition program for women, infants, and children (WIC) to elect to be issued a variety of types of milk, including whole milk.
