Modernizing Our Transportation and Infrastructure

As a Member on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, I’m committed to ensuring the infrastructure in Wisconsin’s Third District receives the attention it deserves. Our roads need to be fixed, our bridges need to be safe and accessible, and all residents need access to clean, safe drinking water.

In my first year in Congress, I introduced or cosponsored 35 bills that will improve Wisconsin’s infrastructure, including:

  • The PFAS Act, which sets up a grant program within the Department of Transportation to help airports transition from PFAS foam
  • The BUILD Act of 2023 to authorize new grants for small and rural public agencies that will be focused on upgrading local law enforcement and fire department facilities that serve fewer than 50,000 residents
  • The Protecting Infrastructure Investments for Rural America Act, which would remove barriers for rural communities to apply and receive funding under the Rural Grant Program
  • The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, which directs the Secretary of Transportation to ensure consumer access to AM radio in all vehicles
  • The Healthy H2O Act, which provides direct assistance to rural communities, households, and nonprofits to test their drinking water and fund filtration technology to provide safer drinking water
  • The Farm to Fly Act, which advances Sustainable Aviation Fuels within the U.S. Department of Agriculture to bolster rural development and create new markets for America’s farmers

I was especially proud to secure two PFAS-filtration related provisions in the House Fiscal Year 2024 (FY24) Interior Appropriations bill. This includes $2 million for equipment to filter PFAS from drinking water in Eau Claire and $2 million for a new water system for the Town of Campbell in La Crosse.

Beyond working to fix the Third District’s roads and bridges, my colleagues and I on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure have been working to lower the costs of everyday goods by passing legislation to strengthen our supply chain. Many complex factors contribute to supply chain issues, but the Biden Administration’s America-last energy agenda led to sky high inflation and exposed supply chain inefficiencies.

To help counteract these failed policies, I introduced or cosponsored:

  • The Truck Parking Safety Improvement Act to authorize $755 million over three years for grant funding toward the expansion of truck parking capacity
  • The Flex Fuel Fairness Act to provide an incentive for automakers to manufacture flex fuel vehicles in addition to battery electric vehicles
  • The Veteran Improvement Commercial Driver License Act of 2023 to eliminate red tape preventing CDL education programs from servicing the veteran’s community by exempting new branches of established commercial driver-training facilities from the statutory two-year waiting period to accept GI Bill benefits if the primary training facility has already been approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs and state approving agencies to receive those benefits.
  • The Motor Carrier Safety Selection Standard Act increases efficiency and safety in the supply chain network by encouraging and enabling motor carriers to safely operate on our Nation’s
    roadways.

In the second session of the 118th Congress, I’m looking forward to continuing to advocate for the Third District’s transportation and infrastructure priorities.
