Praise God—since Wednesday, October 1, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin has paused abortions. That news should cause every one of us to stop and thank the Lord for His mercy and for the faithful advocates who continue to stand for life in our state. Unfortunately, there are still two abortion clinics operating in Milwaukee that are not affiliated with Planned Parenthood.

As I travel across Wisconsin speaking in churches and at community gatherings, I often ask people what they believe our current protections are for unborn children. The answers are all over the map—some assume abortion is entirely banned, others think it’s unrestricted through birth. To be fair, our court system has made this issue extremely convoluted. The reality of Wisconsin’s abortion law is sobering. Earlier this year the State Supreme Court removed our pre-Roe protections for the unborn.

As a result of that decision, abortion is legal in Wisconsin through the first five months of pregnancy.

But that’s not enough for pro-abortion leaders. Just last week, a new bill was introduced that would remove doctors from the abortion process altogether and strip away informed consent—meaning women would no longer be told about the risks or realities of abortion before undergoing the procedure. This comes on the heels of a recent study that found 11% of women who receive a chemical abortion will end up in the emergency room with sepsis or other adverse health issues. It’s a radical move that values abortion access over women’s health and the lives of children.

Now more than ever, Wisconsin needs truth-tellers who will speak clearly and compassionately about what’s at stake. We must have a defense to combat the lies we hear from our culture and the pro-abortion lobby. Let’s thank God for every day that this pause continues at Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin in this culture of death—and keep pressing forward until every life is protected.
