Enhancing Veterans’ Education Benefits

I am proud to have two of my bills focused on improving veterans’ education access and benefits pass out of the House: the VETT Act and the MGIB-SR Tuition Fairness Act. The Veterans Education Transparency and Training (VETT) Act simplifies the process for veterans enrolling in higher education by modifying form requirements and establishing an online portal to serve as a comprehensive resource center for training available to veterans through School Certifying Officials (SCOs). The Montgomery GI Bill Selected Reserves (MGIB-SR) Tuition Fairness Act will establish parity between active-duty and National Guardsmen and Reservists by requiring public higher education institutions to charge in-state tuition rates for veterans using MGIB-SR.

Restoring Balance in Our Branches of Government

There are three coequal branches of government, but the Judicial Branch legislating from the bench has plagued America for decades. Judges are meant to interpret the law, not write it, which is why I voted to pass the No Rogue Rulings Act. This bill will ensure activist federal judges abusing their Article III power cannot block the lawful exercise of executive power.

Specifically, the No Rogue Rulings Act:

  • Restores principles of federalism by clarifying that judicial orders cannot bind non-parties to litigation before a court.
  • Stops single district court judges from solely determining national policy – an authority the Constitution reserves for Congress, the President, and, in limited instances, the Supreme Court.
  • Creates an exception for certified class action lawsuits and establishes a three-judge appeals process that can be appealed directly to the Supreme Court.

Ensuring Integrity in Our Federal Elections

Most Americans believe that only U.S. citizens should be voting in our federal elections. That is why I was proud to vote in favor of the SAVE Act, which requires proof of citizenship to register to vote and directs states to clean up their voter rolls.

I want you to know that the SAVE Act will not prevent women, military members, or any other U.S. citizen from voting – it only prevents non-citizens from voting. This bill offers several ways to verify U.S. citizenship, including, but not limited to, passports, birth certificates, military records, and tribal records. It also requires states to have reasonable verification processes to account for name changes, similar to what voters already do to update their Social Security records or driver's license.

Securing a Strong Budget Blueprint

I also voted to pass the budget resolution, so the House and Senate can now begin working to fulfill the America-first agenda for our constituents. The passage of the budget resolution does not mean it becomes law, but rather sets spending and revenue targets for specific congressional committees as they draft legislation aligned with the reconciliation instructions.

As Congress works through this process, securing historic savings, protecting essential programs, and putting America first will be at the forefront.

I’m committed to fighting for what is best for Wisconsin’s Third District. The passage of these important bills is just the beginning, and I’ll continue working to get you the results you deserve.
