No Sales Tax on Energy Bills
Starting this month, Wisconsin households will no longer have to pay sales taxes on their electricity and natural gas bills.
This exemption is part of the nearly $1.5 billion tax relief package that Joint Finance Committee Republicans included in the 2025-27 state budget.
When putting together our current state spending plan, one of my top priorities was to ensure that Wisconsin taxpayers could keep more of their hard-earned money in their pocketbooks.
The elimination of the 5 percent sales tax on residential energy expenses is projected to result in a statewide taxpayer savings of $178 million over the biennium.
You do not have to take any action to qualify for the tax break. The sales tax is being automatically removed from all household energy bills.
