America is worth fighting for, worth protecting, and worth celebrating

We know America is worth fighting for, worth protecting, and worth celebrating. That’s why what we witnessed at this week’s State of the Union was so striking. At moments that should have united every American, some in the room couldn’t even bring themselves to celebrate our country.

When the men’s gold medal hockey team was recognized, I was proud and cheering “U-S-A!” But some Democrats couldn’t even stand to honor our American victory.

After watching President Trump's latest State of the Union address, I must confess, I haven't had this much fun since the last time Congress tried to agree on lunch. The annual spectacle did not disappoint, replete with standing ovations, strategic eye-rolls, and enough groaning from the Democratic side to warrant a wellness check. If you closed your eyes, you'd have sworn you were at an opera—except the drama was better, the stakes higher, and the popcorn was strictly BYO.

Helping You Navigate State Government

One of the things I am most proud of as a legislator is the strong constituent services my office provides. Nothing means more to me than being at a pancake breakfast or steak feed and hearing someone say, “I called your office about an issue with a state agency, they were so helpful!” Moments like that remind me why this work matters. I wanted to share a few recent examples of how my office has been able to help and show how we can assist you when challenges arise with a state agency.

As chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Revenue, I am encouraging all high school juniors in our area to consider becoming a member of the Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council.

The deadline to submit an application is March 31.

The purpose of the Wisconsin Agriculture Youth Council is to highlight agricultural-related careers, share resources available for farmers, provide insight into agricultural policy development and increase networking opportunities for participants.

Andrew Weiss of the Weiss Energy Policy Institute partnered with us for a report looking at dire state of Wisconsin's energy infrastructure. According to Andrew's study, Wisconsin faces a potential energy crisis, with new reports projecting a high risk of blackouts by the winter of 2028. Residents are currently paying more for electricity than the rest of the Midwest, as energy prices continue to outpace inflation even as residential consumption has decreased.

In a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel op-ed on February 22, politicians Tom Barrett, Scott Klug, Mike Tate, and JB Van Hollen tried to assure readers that "Wisconsin's elections are free, fair, and secure".

But as On Wisconsin Outdoors (OWO) reported in paragraph two of Restoring Verifiable Elections (Attached):

Representative Joy Goeben and Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara recently introduced a new bill called the Teacher Bill of Rights. According to a press release from Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty written in support of the legislation, the bill, “clarifies and strengthens teachers’ authority to maintain order in the classroom, protects teachers from retaliation when they enforce classroom rules or respond to disruptive or violent behavior, and ensures transparency and accountability when serious behavior incidents occur at school.”
