Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty won an appeal last week in a free speech case filed on behalf of Mom’s for Liberty activist, Scarlett Johnson. Johnson was sued by her local school district for defamation after publicly criticizing their promotion of social justice. Deputy Council on the case, Luke Berg, explained, “Scarlett…has the right to question and criticize her government. The defamation lawsuit against her was meritless and should have been promptly dismissed. We are pleased that the Court agreed.”

We are grateful for the excellent work WILL has accomplished on behalf of this activist. Freedom of speech is a constitutionally protected right that doesn’t cease to exist based on the whims of those who disagree. In Wisconsin, and across our nation, our courts must continue to uphold the freedoms that are foundational to our society.
