A Thanksgiving Story Worth Sharing

As we step into Thanksgiving week, my heart is full. There’s something powerful about pausing to remember that our God has been faithfully weaving His goodness through every part of this year. And today, I want to draw your attention to a story that captures exactly why I’m so grateful for the way God is moving in Wisconsin. It’s a testimony of faith, courage, and the kind of gospel-rooted friendship that only God can build.

Back in 2021, I found myself making cold calls to churches in Assembly District 3 (East of Appleton) where Representative Ron Tusler serves. Through my conversations with Ron, I sensed that he was hungry to go deeper in his faith, and that God was stirring his heart. I wanted to find a local church pastor to meet with Ron at the Capitol. As I was making calls, God led me to Pastor Jason Steger’s office at Village Church in Kimberly. Jason didn’t just answer the call that day; he stepped into a ministry assignment that some pastors recognize but all are needed for: shepherding governing authorities with the truth of the gospel.

Over the years, Jason and Ron’s relationship grew through reading Scripture, praying together, and having honest conversations. Then, in 2024, when Ron was diagnosed with debilitating spinal cancer, that relationship proved to be a lifeline. In his suffering, Ron found himself pointed back to Jesus. In fear, he found hope. In uncertainty, he found a brother who stood with him. And by God’s grace, Ron now carries a testimony of healing that brings glory to Christ and courage to all who hear it.

That is what I’m thankful for today.

I’m thankful for Ron’s friendship… for his bold witness… and for the reminder that God is still in the business of turning trials into testimonies.

Psalm 9:1 (ESV) says,

“I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart; I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.”

This is exactly what Ron did last week when he shared his testimony and story in front of the entire State Assembly. If you want to hear Ron's testimony you can watch the video HERE (The video is 24 minutes long. While it’s remarkable in its entirety, if you only have five minutes, I encourage you to start at 17:30).

I’m also thankful for pastors like Jason who hear the call to step into the lives of civic leaders, not to gain influence, but to faithfully extend Christ’s Kingdom.

And I’m thankful for you, our partners, friends, and fellow laborers, who make stories like this possible through your prayers, your encouragement, and your support of this ministry.

This week, I’m recounting His deeds. And you are part of them.
