Protecting Women's Sports
On Thursday, the Assembly Committee on Education held an important hearing regarding LRB 872/2 and 880/2: Save Women's Sports Act.
Biological men participating in women's sports has become a serious issue across the country. In 2022, Lia Thomas (born as a biological male named William Thomas), won the NCAA championship in swimming after Thomas joined the women's division. In the men's division, Thomas was far from a top contender, finishing 554th in the 200-meter freestyle. Against women, Thomas finished fifth.
This issue should not be political. Society overwhelmingly agrees biological genders should stay in their respective divisions and only compete against each other. A Marquette University Law School poll released in December of 2024 found 76% of respondents believed biological sex should determine your opponents - not whoever you decide you want to compete against.
These bills, introduced by my Assembly colleague Rep. Dittrich, will establish two categories of sports teams based on biological sex.
LRB 872/2 requires each school board, independent charter school, and private choice school that operates or sponsors an athletic team or club to designate the team based on the sex of the participating students and prevent male students from using female locker rooms.
LRB 880/2 requires the UW System and Wisconsin Technical Colleges to establish sports teams based on the sex of the participating athletes and prevent male students from using female locker rooms.
The topic of gender should be common sense and Republicans in the Legislature are doing the right thing by leading the charge.

Who do we protect?
Is it the young people who struggle to be normal and do what standards expect? Or do we cater to confused or misled people who want special treatment for their confused situations? It is our responsibility to help those who are the mainstream people; to do anything else is a huge disservice to the majority who are trying hard to function in this difficult society. Many people have made it very hard for our young people to know what is normal.
