Protecting Social Security and Medicare
I wanted to make sure you saw my op-ed in the La Crosse Tribune over the weekend, where I highlight my commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare.
As I say in the op-ed, I will have no part in a debt ceiling negotiation that includes cuts to Social Security or Medicare. Fortunately, my colleagues on both sides of the aisle agree that Social Security and Medicare are not on the table. Senior citizens built this nation, and I will do everything to make sure that they have the benefits they earned. End of story.
I look forward to working with my colleagues to deliver a budget that cuts spending, lowers costs, and protects the benefits to which our retirees are entitled. I also commit to working with my colleagues to strengthen these programs and ensure they continue to provide the programs that our seniors rely on.

Good luck Derrick
No one but the Democrats thinks that this is a political stunt, they say the Republicans talk about it for political reasons. Well anyone that wants to talk facts knows this is a train wreck coming and it needs to be dealt with now. It could have worked well, but Congress has plundered it time after time. First, they borrowed money from it, then they started paying it out to people who were not supposed to be covered under it, and then they just simply mismanaged it. Oh, I guess all people with an average IQ knew they would, that is what government does.
Yes, it is time to stop playing games and set this on a sustainable path. And now that it has failed, let us please not force our grandchildren into poverty for our selfish needs and wants, our grandchildren did not ask for this debt, but they are being taxed without representation.
