MacIver Reacts to Budget Deal
We are far from impressed with the budget agreement Governor Evers announced today.
Apparently Republican leaders’ biggest concern was how to secure Democrat votes when principled conservatives said no. While there is plenty of spending in this budget, there is no mention of accountability.
As a result of this deal, UW bureaucrats get raises while student enrollment declines. The state's K-12 public schools get an enormous increase plus higher property taxes, and after years of spending more our kids get less actual education.
In Gov. Evers’ Year of the Kid, this budget expands his cradle-to-grave vision with an expansion of government-run childcare programs, as the Wisconsin Shares program lowers their quality standards.
All this is on top of the $750 million property tax increase that resulted from the last budget "deal" with the Governor.
The bottom line is this: Republican leadership sold out their constituents for a $180 tax cut.
As we do with every budget, MacIver will be meticulous in analyzing and reporting the details of the budget so taxpayers will know if their money is spent wisely. We believe that if Wisconsin citizens are given accurate information in a thought-provoking and entertaining format, they will demand less spending, fiscal honesty and sensible regulation from their government.

I agree with Maclver, but
I hate this budget, but I am one of those who do not understand that we need to make so many compromises to get anything at all when you have an imbecile governor. I do think and hope things would be far different if we had a veto-proof legislature.
Excellent comment Tom
There is such an obvious vacuum of leadership in Wisconsin that the Republicans in the legislature are forced to do the job of the governor who appears to be out to lunch all the time. Sources in Madison tell me that they have a hard time even getting the loser to sit down for short conversations not to mention the hours long workshops necessary to collaborate on a budget plan for the entire state. Given all these challenges, I'm proud of the work the legislature did to 'make the sausage' in a very ugly process of doing their best to mix and match very different ideas. I, too, am disappointed that they didn't lean more on Liberty solutions and ended up succumbing to a few Marxist ideas in order to reach an agreement. Why is it that we always end up ceding ground to the Marxists to reach an agreement but they never cede ground to Liberty? BTW, Muller's recent podcast does a great job of focusing on Liberty solutions. https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/chris69162/episodes/Independence...
