Governor Evers Attempts to Redefine Motherhood
LifeSite News reports that Governor Evers’ budget recommendations for the 2025-2027 fiscal period fixated primarily on removing sex-specific language from numerous parts of state law. Evers’ proposal replaces “wife” and “husband” with “spouse,” “father” with “parent,” and, most notably, “mother” with “inseminated person” and “parent who gave birth to the child.” This follows in the footsteps of proposals that suggest using the term “chestfeeding” rather than “breastfeeding” because it is allegedly “more inclusive.”
This is yet another attempt to diminish motherhood and disrespect biological women and the beauty of womanhood. There are many important issues our state needs to address – changing the terms surrounding birth, breastfeeding, mothers, and fathers is not one of those issues. Sex is an immutable biological characteristic; our state laws should reflect that.
