I wanted to keep you updated on what we’re working on in Washington. Please don’t hesitate to contact my office with your concerns or with casework requests. You can find contact information for your closest District Office on VanOrden.House.Gov.

This week, I introduced two veterans’ affairs bills that are designed to expand opportunities for veterans and protect military families. The EMPLOY VETS Act improves the process transitioning servicemembers go through as they move from active duty to veteran by ensuring they receive information about employment opportunities. The Protect Military Dependents Act ensures that dependents who receive educational benefits aren’t penalized when a servicemember loses benefits.

Government needs to make it easier, not harder for veterans and their families to access benefits and transition to civilian life. These three bills would guarantee our federal government is best serving those who have served us. You can read more about them here.

On Thursday, I voted to pass the Parents Bill of Rights Act. Parents have a right to make decisions for their children. The bill makes clear to parents what their rights are and makes clear to schools what their duties to parents are. You can read the five principles included in the Parents Bill of Rights here.

This week, the House Committee on Veterans’ Affairs held a hearing to discuss the Department of Veterans Affairs budget for the 2023 and 2024 fiscal years. I reminded my colleagues about the valuable perspective offered by veterans when evaluating these programs.

Lastly, I joined WEAU in Eau Claire to discuss the Farm Bill, DAIRY PRIDE Act, and other initiatives for Wisconsin farmers. You can watch the story here.
