Get Informed & Get Involved
My February copy of DECISION magazine arrived a few days ago. The full title is “Decision: The Evangelical Voice for Today” and it is published 11 times a year by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in North Carolina.
The cover story was an interesting and informative article on Hobby Lobby founder David Green. The story starts with how God provided for his family (David and five siblings) when his dad never pastored a church of more than 100 people. The story continued to his making picture frames in his garage, opening the first Hobby Lobby in 1972, and you know the rest of the story. Since 1996 the Greens have proclaimed the message of Christ at Christmas and Easter in prominently placed newspaper advertising.
The next article, also interesting and informative, was about the Museum of the Bible in downtown Washington, D.C. that is led by Steve Green – David Green’s son. Steve Green is the Chairman of the Museum of the Bible’s board of directors. After many years in the prayer, planning and establishing stages, it was opened almost a decade ago. The museum is a six-story, 430,000 square foot building which is a treasure trove of Biblical history. In 2025, the museum had nearly one-half million visitors.
Some pages later there was an article by Gary Hamrick titled “The Church’s Mission in a Decaying Culture”. This article was also interesting and informative. But to a grass roots conservative political activist, it was also impactful. I cannot repeat the entire article, but a few sentences need to be shared. First, there was the five word paragraph “Our culture is in decay.”
This was immediately followed by “We have no one to blame for the social and moral decline in America except ourselves. Many churches have embraced liberal philosophies…while some churches will not address political matters at all. Whether they’re afraid to lose their 501(c)(3) status or simply don’t want to ruffle feathers in their congregations, they are bowing to man instead of God.”
Then, a few numbers made an impact. “While there are 90 million self-identified evangelical Christians in America who are eligible to vote, 40 million do not vote, and 15 million are not even registered. And we wonder why evil has filled the vacuum.” Later in the article Hamrick points out that there have been more Christians martyred for their faith in the past century than in the previous 20 centuries!
He concludes with “Jesus is coming again, and the church is to influence the world for Christ until His return. We are not to be silent, passive, ashamed, embarrassed or politically correct.”
The next page had another interesting, informative, and impactful article titled “Should Christians Influence Government?” by Wayne Grudem. “Influencing government for good on the basis of the wisdom found in God’s own words is a theme that runs throughout the entire Bible” was highlighted. Gruden talks about what if pastors and church members remain silent and then the overwhelming influence of the bad guys – Satan and his demons-- dictate policies. He concludes “That is where moral standards will come from if Christians remain silent.”
So, my plea – as we have a country to save – is to get informed and get involved. Get informed and get involved concerning the 40 million self-identified evangelical Christians that are eligible to vote but don’t! Help find the 15 million not even registered to vote and help them get registered and then get them to vote.
I am certain that their values of faith, family, and freedom are similar to our values!
