Farm bill advances out of committee
The House Committee on Agriculture advanced the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026, sending the legislation to the House floor for consideration.
Agriculture is the cornerstone of Wisconsin and the backbone of our nation. From dairy farms to family operations that have been passed down for generations, our farmers help feed the nation and keep rural communities strong. Wisconsin isn’t just a dairy state — it’s the Dairy State, and our producers set the standard for hard work and quality.
The Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026 builds on the progress we made supporting farmers, ranchers, and rural communities and delivers the tools our producers need to stay competitive and our Nation fed.
Wisconsin farmers work tirelessly to provide food for families across this country, and they deserve certainty and support from Washington. I’m proud to work across the aisle to deliver for our farmers and rural communities and look forward to advancing this legislation on the House floor.
The legislation now heads to the House floor for consideration.

Government caused struggling farmers.
I could be wrong, and I will start by stating I get a good part of my income from farming. I wish the government had gotten out of farming years ago, as well as all private enterprise. We have not starved to death in all the years since the government started this social program under the guise of stabilization. Now we have poor businesspeople surviving because our neighbors bail us out when it rains too much or not enough. I had a career as an electrical contractor, and I never got any subsidy for that, and I should not have, if I could not make a living, I needed to fail and join those working for someone else. Farm subsidies have evolved into another abuse of our Constitution.
Having said all that, I am glad we have some republican input into the Farm Bill, without it, you all know where this would end up: one more out-of-control social program. Here is what is included.
The Farm Bill is a massive, roughly five-year omnibus law governing federal agricultural and food policy, with over 75% of its budget typically funding nutrition assistance (SNAP). It primarily covers commodity subsidies for crops like corn and soy, crop insurance, conservation programs, trade, rural development, and research.
