Assembly Republicans Ask Gov. Evers to Rescind his Immigration Guidance

On Tuesday, Assembly Republicans wrote a letter to Gov. Evers asking him to rescind guidance his administration sent to employees directing them not to cooperate with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This guidance impedes the necessary work immigration officials need to do to keep our state and our citizens safe.

Assembly Republicans passed AB 24 in March, which requires local law enforcement officials to comply with ICE to deport violent illegal immigrants. This guidance from the Governor directly contradicts the legislation we passed to prioritize the safety of American citizens living in Wisconsin.

Despite what Gov. Evers says about this guidance, the memo tells staff to "refuse to hand over paper files or give ICE officers access to computer systems, even if the officers have a warrant". This is another case of the Evers Administration being out of touch with Wisconsin.
