“Just as Ezra read the Word aloud to the people of Israel (Nehemiah 8:1–3), awakening revival and repentance, inspiring them to rebuild the temple, and working with Nehemiah to mobilize the people to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls, America Reads the Bible is a sacred opportunity to call our nation back to its spiritual foundations. Through a public, continuous reading of the entire Bible in our nation’s capital by our national leaders from all spheres of influence, we believe God can spark revival in individual hearts and inspire Americans to carry the Word forward in their lives and communities into the next 250 years of our national story.” (From the event’s webpage)

“America Reads the Bible is a national Scripture-reading event and movement led by Christians Engaged – a nonprofit organization committed to discipling Americans on biblical world view and their responsibilities as citizens to pray, vote, and engage for the wellbeing of our nation. …This initiative invites Americans from every background to return to the spiritual foundation that has shaped our country-the Word of God. Over the course of one week, leaders and everyday citizens alike will participate in a public reading the entire Bible, bringing together voices from government, education, business, the arts, and the Church.” (From the event’s webpage)

This event started with an Opening Celebration on April 18th but you can watch it live online on their website on April 19 to 25 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. (central time) daily. That site has a wealth of information including an almost 3 minute video introducing the program which has a theme of “One Week. One Nation. One Book”.

During that week, over 475 leaders from all spheres of American citizenry will read the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelation. It will be a public reading for America to gather around the Word of God as we prepare to celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary. A secondary theme of this significant event is “Our Foundation. Our Future”. The host is Christians Engaged and it will be presented on the World Sage Theater of the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C. Additionally, there are 14 Discipleship Partners to include: Christian Broadcasting Network, Museum of the Bible, Wallbuilders, Family Research Council and ten more. Then, there are 122 Ministry Partners and that list includes Concerned Women for America, National Rifle Association, Dallas Theological Seminary, Alliance Defending Freedom, Catholic Vote, Promise Keepers, Dallas Baptist University, TPUSA Faith, and so many more. Finally, there is an additional list of Hourly Partners which includes the Wisconsin Family Council.

The list of readers is absolutely awesome. This list includes six members of President Trump’s Cabinet, US Senators and Congressman, Governors, Preachers and Professors, Businessmen, elected state government officials, former military, private citizens, and even students. Five of the readers are (or were) from Wisconsin: Julaine Appling and Daniel Degner from Wisconsin Family Council; former Congressman and now Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy; Congressman Tom Tiffany; and former Governor Scott Walker. Even White House Chief of Staff Suzie Wiles is on the list!

There will also be worship leaders to facilitate prayer and worship at the end of each hour of Bible Reading. (I am not sure how this will work for online observers, but I plan to find out.)
