Gov. Tony Evers is in trouble.

The latest Marquette Law School poll not only shows Evers’ plummeting poll numbers, it offers a pretty clear indicator of how the far left Democrat got here.

Evers, who is running for a second term, has seen his job approval ratings fall to 45 percent, down 5 percentage points since the Marquette’s August poll — and 20 points since March 2020. He’s under water everywhere. His favorability rate fell to 42 percent, while 45 percent of registered voters surveyed have an unfavorable view of the of the governor.

Election day 2022 is a year away (a veritable century in politics), but the poll points to some big problems for a liberal politician running as the “Education Governor.”

The poll found a majority of respondents, 57 percent, say they are very concerned about children falling behind academically “due to disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.” Another 31 percent are somewhat concerned. Similar percentages are concerned about children’s mental or emotional health being affected by the disruptions of school.

The “disruptions” aren’t merely the result of the pandemic. Parents know that. Evers allowed his key allies, the teachers unions and educrats, lock kids out of their schools. The largest and most academically troubled school districts in the state continued to mandate virtual learning long after health officials advised students should be back in the classroom. Those students in particular are paying the price. We know that the “Lost Year of Education” was incredibly costly on student achievement and mental health. And Evers allowed it to happen.

The latest data on testing and student success show English Language Arts (ELA) proficiency statewide was 27.5 percent last year, down 5.4 points or a 16 percent reduction from 2019. Math proficiency is at 27 percent, down 7 points from 2019 or a 20.5 percent reduction.

These are failing grades a long time in the making, and they have much to do with the failings of the “Education Governor.” Before winning election in 2018, the Democrat ruled the state Department of Public Instruction for a decade.

Beyond the failing grades, the pandemic has exposed the extent of what Evers’ liberal education allies are “teaching” Wisconsin’s K-12 student. There has been a parental awakening to the Woke indoctrination of “critical race theory,” “anti-racism” and other leftist political dogma injected into taxpayer-funded education.

“There’s a lot of angst out there from families on the education system,” Paul Farrow, chairman of the Republican Party of Wisconsin, said last week in a press call on the 2022 political landscape.

Farrow said Republicans plan to continue to focus on local issues, and education in particular “is going to resonate in Wisconsin.”

It certainly did in Virginia, where old Clinton pal and Democrat machine politician Terry McAuliffe was “shockingly” defeated by Republican challenger Glenn Youngkin.

Conservative journalist Matt Walsh tweeted, “I want to thank the Loudon County (Va.) school board. None of this would have been possible without you.”

Evers is part of the left establishment that demands “we know better.” McAuliffe is a cautionary tale that parents — voters — have had it with such arrogance.
