God’s Word and a Biblical Worldview
As Christians, we recognize that Christ’s resurrection from the dead forms the foundation of our faith and gives us hope no matter what we experience in life. Christ’s resurrection also provides the foundation of a biblical worldview. Worldview functions as the lens through which people interpret reality and the data of life. A person with a Biblical worldview bases every aspect of life, including belief system, on what the Bible says. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer Americans are embracing a Biblical worldview.
Every year, the Cultural Research Center releases a report that surveys the state of worldviews in America. This year’s report found that only 4% of American adults have a Biblical worldview, and only 11% of adults attending evangelical Protestant churches hold that perspective. Unsurprisingly, the report found that the younger the age of the adults, the less likely they are to have a biblical worldview: this translates to only 1% of Gen Z adults surveyed.
These results show that going to church isn’t enough to build a Biblical worldview (although it is crucial to building a strong foundation, connecting with Christian community, and living out the Christian faith). Building a Biblical worldview begins with asking hard questions. Sadly, many Christians today are turning to worldly sources instead of the Bible for answers. When cultural thinking does not align with the Bible, we need to align ourselves with the Word of God.
Having a Biblical worldview isn’t a ticket to an easy life, but it is a promise for hope in dark times and purpose in life. The Bible also answers life's fundamental questions: "Where did we come from?" and "Does life have meaning?" and "What happens after death?"
Yesterday, we took time to observe Memorial Day. This day gives us the opportunity to remember and commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in service to our country. Freedom is never free; someone is always paying the price. Similarly, the freedom we experience through the saving power of Jesus Christ came at a cost: Christ’s death on the cross.
Jesus Christ as revealed in the Bible is the foundational component of a Biblical worldview; it is powerful and life-changing. Christ’s resurrection is the bedrock of our perspective and it therefore determines how we live. Without it, our ideology falls apart. But with it, we have a clear lens through which we can view our world with hope, joy, purpose, and true meaning.
