A Bipartisan Effort to Grow Wisconsin’s Workforce

Towards the end of the legislative session, much of what gets media attention is what causes outrage: party-line votes that narrowly pass and bills that fail to get over the finish line due to a lack of support. You rarely hear the good stories and difficult problems that are solved with bipartisan solutions. I want to use this week’s column to highlight a bill that passed at the end of session with overwhelming bipartisan support, a common-sense proposal that brought together legislators of both parties to solve a problem.

“Just as Ezra read the Word aloud to the people of Israel (Nehemiah 8:1–3), awakening revival and repentance, inspiring them to rebuild the temple, and working with Nehemiah to mobilize the people to rebuild Jerusalem’s walls, America Reads the Bible is a sacred opportunity to call our nation back to its spiritual foundations.

Gov. Tony Evers issued a significantly consequential executive order on April 3, but it flew almost entirely beneath the public’s radar. He created a new “commutation” board to release prison inmates early for the first time in 25 years, even murderers and people serving life prison terms.

And almost no one noticed.

My message of lowering taxes, protecting women’s sports, protecting life, and improving education is resonating throughout the state. Now, I need to ask for your help again.

To get on the ballot for the August Primary, I need a minimum of 2,000 individual signatures. I am asking for your help to reach this goal. Yourself, family, neighbors, and friends who are residents of Wisconsin can sign these papers.

When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.

~ Isaiah 59:19

I’m sure I don’t really need to tell you this, but we’re in a spiritual battle. This isn’t a game or some kind of hyperbole; the soul of our nation is on the line right now.

The other day, I read and reflected on Isaiah 59:19. The passage reads: When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.

Following up on last week's "Testin's Throwback Thursday" post about the 2025-27 state budget, I want to shift the focus to some of the measures we incorporated into the fiscal plan to help Wisconsinites keep more money in their pockets.

As the Senate vice-chair of the budget-writing Joint Finance Committee, one of my top priorities was to provide the residents of Wisconsin with meaningful tax relief.

We accomplished this goal by expanding the second-lowest tax bracket of 4.4 percent to include married couples with incomes up to $67,300 and single filers up to $50,480.

Institute for Family Studies and Center for Christian Virtue recently released their annual Family Structure Index report. The report ranks individual states on the health of families by tracking how many prime-aged adults are married, the number of teens in intact homes, and fertility rates. Wisconsin ranked 21 with 65% of teens in intact homes, a 55% marriage rate among prime aged adults, and a 1.6 fertility rate. Pro-family advocates hope to see these numbers rise in the coming years.
