Why Tom Barrett, Scott Klug, Mike Tate, and JB Van Hollen are not worthy of your trust
In a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel op-ed on February 22, politicians Tom Barrett, Scott Klug, Mike Tate, and JB Van Hollen tried to assure readers that "Wisconsin's elections are free, fair, and secure".
But as On Wisconsin Outdoors (OWO) reported in paragraph two of Restoring Verifiable Elections (Attached):
"The candidate’s clearly stated goal will be to restore verifiable elections to our state, not free and fair elections, and this is why. “Free and fair” is a meaningless phrase for elections, used by the media and ineffective politicians, that does not guarantee or even imply verifiability. But “verifiable” elections are designed so that every vote counted is tied to a verifiable, eligible voter. Because of this, only verifiable elections can validate the will of Wisconsin’s voters. Simply put, all verifiable elections will be free and fair, but not all free and fair elections will be verifiable."
Not only did Barrett, Klug,Tate, and Van Hollen fail to mention verifiability in their op-ed, they also withheld the following factual information from the readers:
1 Wisconsin has more than 8.2 million total voter names on the Wisconsin Elections Commissions' (WEC) voter registration list, even though there are only 4.6 million voting aged citizens living in Wisconsin.
2 Wisconsin is one of 23 states, along with the District of Columbia, being sued by the Department of Justice (DOJ) for refusing to turn over the voter registration list for inspection as required by law.
3 When the DOJ inspects Wisconsin's list, it will find more than 4 million ineligible voter names on it. Among the names will be non-citizens, people who have died, people who have moved, people who have committed a crime that makes them ineligible to vote, and people who have been found mentally unable to vote.
4 Wisconsin charges $12,500.00 for the voter registration list, to people who want to inspect it. But the charge and size of the list make it impossible to inspect.
5 There are more than 250,000 ineligible voters living legally in Wisconsin who have been issued Driver's Licenses that are identical to those of eligible voters. Because all you need to register in Wisconsin is a Driver's License, these ineligible voters can easily vote.
6 When issuing voting ID's there is no requirement for the University of Wisconsin system to verify the citizenship of students, even though there are more than 8000 non-citizen students from 100 countries at UW Madison alone.
Barrett, Klug, Tate, and Van Hollen also lied to the readers by telling them that Wisconsin's elections are "among the most decentralized in the nation". In fact, Wisconsin's elections are centrally controlled by the WEC, which uploads the voter registration lists to clerks via "Badger Books" before elections. (See Election Integrity in Wisconsin-Part Two in the September/October 2023 archived issue at onwisconsinoutdoors.com).
Barrett, Klug, Tate, and Van Hollen have proven that they are bad men. They are willing to lie and withhold information from citizens about why Wisconsin's elections are unverifiable, in order to deny those citizens their will at the ballot box.
As we move forward, remember their names, what they did, and that they are not worthy of your trust.
