Religious Freedom Constitutional Amendment Passes

Last week, lawmakers celebrated a huge win for religious freedom in our state. The state legislature, led by Representative Ron Tusler, passed a proposed constitutional amendment that prohibits the government from stopping public worship services even during a state of emergency issued by the national, state, or local authorities. Now, the people of Wisconsin will decide in the ballot box whether our state will ratify the constitutional amendment during the fall election.

Wisconsin Family Action President Daniel Degner stated, "Religious liberty is not granted by government; it is given by God and protected by our Constitution. In the months ahead, Wisconsin Family Action will work alongside churches and mobilize Christians across the state to educate, engage, and turn out voters in support of the amendment ahead of the 2026 election."

The passage of this amendment brings Wisconsin law one step closer to ensuring that our right to worship freely can’t be revoked based on the personal convictions of elected officials. In 2020, we saw the freedom to worship restricted by state and local authorities. If this amendment passes, places of worship will have specific legal protections to prevent forced closures.
