Passing our 2025-2027 State Budget
Last night, the Assembly passed a bipartisan budget for 2025-2027 that secured major conservative wins, such as a $1.5 billion tax cut, eliminating over 300 state government positions, increasing public safety, and blocking billions of dollars in tax hikes and liberal policies proposed by Governor Evers.
The 2025-2027 budget delivers $1.5 billion in meaningful tax relief by including $695 million in retirement tax exemptions, expanding the second income tax bracket, and eliminating the sales tax on residential electricity and natural gas, saving ratepayers nearly $178 million.
In addition, Republicans’ action today highlights that strengthening public safety remains a key priority. This budget adds more than 40 new assistant district attorney positions statewide, boosts statutory funding for the Office of School Safety, which manages the Speak Up, Speak Out tip line, and invests in community organizations that support Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) programs.
Here are some other Conservative wins:
- Blocks resident tuition for undocumented individuals
- Blocks the attack by the executive on important legislative oversight
- Eliminates Governor Evers’ climate change initiatives
- Removes automatic voter registration and decreases residency requirements from 28 days to 10 days for voting
On Wednesday, Assembly Republicans stood united to provide an update on the 2025-2027 budget prior to the vote. Several members highlighted the parts of the budget that will help Wisconsinites and continue to make our state a great place to live.
