My New Veterans Bill

Last week, I introduced my third Veterans’ Affairs bill of the 118th Congress. The TAP Promotion Act will allow representatives of Veterans Service Organizations to provide information to military members participating in pre-separation counseling under the Transition Assistance Program (TAP). You can read the bill here.

I have also introduced the Protect Military Dependents Act, which passed the House of Representatives on May 24, and the EMPLOY VETS Act, which allows transitioning servicemembers to receive information about employment opportunities from the Department of Labor.

I also joined Department of Veterans Affairs Secretary Denis McDonough in Tomah last week, where we discussed the need to work together to ensure our veterans have the care they deserve.

Secretary McDonough praised our support of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, which fully funds the Department of Veterans Affairs, including veterans’ benefits: “I just want to thank Mr. Van Orden for his vote in favor of this very generous package which President Biden signed into law…it did not go unnoticed that he supported that package and it is a very generous package, so I thank you and all of the many, many advocates on Capitol Hill for our vets.” You can watch the clip here.

Our federal government needs to make sure we are best serving those who have served us. I look forward to continuing to advocate for active duty service members, veterans, and military families in Congress.
