All week, I’ve been watching the chaos unfold in Los Angeles—and while media outlets toss around vague terms like “riots” and “unrest,” no one is speaking plainly about what this really is. So let me do it for them.

Yes, we’re seeing riots.

Yes, we’re hearing about American flags being trampled and burned while foreign flags are defiantly flown.

My Appearance on "UpFront"

I joined WISN's UpFront program on Sunday to provide more insight on the budget negotiations.

In case you missed it: Over the course of the last few weeks, Senate and Assembly Republicans have engaged with Governor Evers and his staff in negotiations with the goal of reaching bipartisan agreement in major areas of the state budget. In the budget crafted two years ago, Governor Evers vetoed our tax cut and kept all the spending. Our hope this time would be that via negotiation, middle class tax relief would avoid a veto.

Budget Failure Not Surprising, Here's How To Reform Process

The failure of Gov. Evers and legislative leaders to come to an agreement on a budget that prioritizes taxpayers and institutes necessary reforms is unfortunate but unsurprising. There has been a tremendous lack of leadership in the Capitol for some time, and the bottom line is it's not working. Now is an opportunity for conservatives on the legislative Joint Finance Committee to develop a responsible budget that puts taxpayers first.

At the MacIver Institute, we've been urging the adoption of budget reforms for years. Here are some suggestions for conservatives to consider:

Budget Bulletin: Funding Government's Core Functions

The Joint Committee on Finance (JFC) met the past two weeks, on May 29 and June 5. Between the two meetings, we approved the budget for 17 agencies.

Our action on the budget so far has focused on helping government run smoothly and efficiently. We have made tweaks to our proven base budget, which was signed by the Governor. We added positions and increased funding where we believed it was necessary, and chose not to add positions and funding where we believed state agencies already have the tools at their disposal to be successful.

Recently, the House passed H.R.1 – the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act. This is a comprehensive piece of legislation that eliminates more than $1.5 trillion in waste, fraud, and abuse in the federal government while best serving the American people by protecting vital programs and making the tax cuts from the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) permanent.

I wanted to take a moment to share the great wins in this bill that serve the American people and their families.

Maybe you’re like me and you’re discouraged with events that took place this last week. Governor Evers raised the “pride” flag, sports teams elevated LGBT lifestyles, and the LGBT+ Caucus in Wisconsin’s Capitol introduced a radical legislative package.

One of the bills in this package even went as far as eliminating every reference to “mother”, “father”, “husband”, and “wife” in state law.
