Public Hearing on Immigration and Assembly Bill 24

I testified at a public hearing held by the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety to highlight the importance of Assembly Bill 24, which requires sheriffs to assist with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, otherwise known as ICE, to protect our citizens from dangerous criminals being out on the streets.

The notification and compliance requirement in the legislation only applies to individuals taken into custody for a felony charge. This includes sexual assault, homicide, kidnapping, strangulation, illegal possession of a firearm, soliciting a child to participate in gang activity, and other serious crimes. Legislation like this is supported by the vast majority of Americans. An AP poll in 2025 found that 83% of adults support deporting immigrants who have committed a violent crime, even in deep blue states. So why do Wisconsin Democrats have an issue with this bill? This is a sensible approach to the immigration issue caused by the Biden Administration that has harmed far too many American citizens.

And John Kennedy would be so saddened by this theft of his party. It is gone, and the Blue Dogs have a new home if they will accept it. I feel embarrassed for those who are still wondering what happened.
