Inauguration Day
All members of the Senate and Assembly took the oath of office at Monday's Inauguration in the state Capitol. The oath was administered by Supreme Court Justice Rebecca Bradley. It was a privilege to have her and I am honored to have earned the support and confidence of my colleagues to once again be voted in as the Assembly Speaker.
My inaugural speech focused on my hope that both parties could work together without sacrificing our principles to find common ground solutions for the most challenging problems facing Wisconsin.
I outlined five predictions and priorities for the Assembly for the upcoming session:
- We will always remember the hardworking taxpayers need relief from crushing price increases and out-of-control local taxes by passing a meaningful tax cut.
- We will not create new programs that grow the size of government.
- We will demand accountability and measurable results for any increases in funding.
- We will lead the way in innovation with our Government Operations Accountability and Transparency Committee (GOAT). Status quo is not the way forward.
- Assembly Republicans will invite the leaders of the minority party to once again craft a memorandum of understanding that sets our path forward to working together toward common sense solutions.
I'm excited for the 107th legislative session and look forward to getting to work! Feel free to watch my speech in its entirety below.
