Reactivating Wisconsin’s Pro-Life Law
On Monday, the Wisconsin Supreme Court heard arguments for and against enforcing the state’s pre-Roe law prohibiting most abortions. The law was nullified by Roe, but was never revoked by the legislature or voters. After the Dobbs decision returned the abortion issue to the states, the law was immediately put back in place. In a Circuit Court ruling in Dane County, it was ruled that Statute 940.04 regarding "abortion" actually didn't relate to abortion but to feticide.
The law claims that it is illegal to provide an abortion except in the case to save the life of the mother. Ironically, one of the liberal Justices of the Court claimed the attorney representing the rule of law and pro-life position was asking her to sign a “death warrant” for women and children in Wisconsin.
The unfortunate reality is that the ruling that struck down statute 940.04 is a “death warrant” for thousands of babies each year who are killed in the womb. We pray our Supreme Court justices will understand that truth and uphold the original law.
