Kinser, Wright discuss vouchers, achievement standards at state schools superintendent forum
In case you missed it, Brittany Kinser, candidate for State Superintendent of Public Instruction, dominated headlines and the stage in Madison on Thursday as she participated in the WisPolitics forum less than two weeks from primary day.
“State superintendent candidate Brittany Kinser said at a WisPolitics candidate forum that she backs school choice because she ‘supports families making the best option for their kids,’” according to the WisPolitics write-up from the forum.
Kinser, who spent the last 25 years of experience as a special education teacher, principal, education consultant, and CEO of a Milwaukee education advocacy nonprofit, has made children and their families the primary focus of her campaign.
“There are children and families that use the scholarship to go to school. We’re talking about children and families,” Kinser said. “I’m pro-school choice, yes.”
Ultimately, Kinser drove home the reason why she got into the race for DPI Superintendent in the first place – to restore high standards.
“We need to make sure we raise high expectations,” Kinser told WisPolitics forum attendees. “Make sure we’re partnering with our parents, making sure that the funding is going into the classroom, we’re rewarding our good teachers…and that DPI is transparent, predictable and innovative for our educators, our community and our parents.”
