Three Reasons to Vote Yes on Wisconsin’s Constitutional Amendments

Starting October 20th, when early in-person voting begins at your local clerk's office, Wisconsin voters will decide three proposed constitutional amendments. I believe each deserves a **yes** vote because each places a clear limit on government power.

The first would prevent a governor from using a partial veto to create or increase a tax or fee. Wisconsin’s governors have unusually broad power to alter budget bills through partial vetoes. Tax decisions should be debated and approved by _elected legislators_, whose votes the public can see. This amendment would preserve the governor’s veto while drawing a firm line around taxation.

The second would protect gatherings in places of worship during a declared emergency. Families and congregations should be able to turn to their faith and one another when a crisis strikes. Voting yes would prevent state and local officials from ordering places of worship closed or forbidding gatherings there in response to an emergency, including a public health emergency. You may remember that during COVID, the Democrats in power forced us to close our churches while allowing liquor stores to remain open. Vote YES on this amendment to make sure that _never_ happens again.

The third would prohibit government entities from discriminating against people or granting preferential treatment based on race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in public employment, education, contracting, and administration. Public opportunities should be governed by fair rules that apply to everyone.

These questions address different issues, but they share a principle: government must respect boundaries set by the people. A yes vote on all three would put those boundaries into Wisconsin’s Constitution, where future officials of either party would have to honor them. Read each question carefully, then join me in voting **yes, yes, and yes**.

Only because we have allowed the erosion of common sense and our rights, we need to do this. For anyone who wants Wisconsin to survive, this is a slam dunk! But we must make certain to get our rights back. I guess when so-called adults can't tell you what a man or a woman is, then you need to clarify details, so let's do it while we still can.
